Well, it’s ugly as all hell, and a professional wouldn’t get caught dead with it, unless of course, their gimick is playing ugly instruments. If that’s the case, I don’t think professional quite suits them.

Usually bawu is made with bamboo.
But this one is made with African-crane gourd, which is having a very long hollow stem, and it sounds very mellow.

This bawu is made by professional bawu & hulusi maker in China. It is not a toy nor a tourist souvenir, it is a quality instrument.

The Sound my be similar, but it’s certainly not a Bawu.

If you were aiming for Hulusi, but designed it wrong, I can understand, But Bawu do not have Gourds.

You mean the rugged surface of the gourd? THAT IS PART OF THE PLANT.
ALL THE THINGS HANGED ON THE WALL ARE GOURD (PLANT).
This kind of African crane gourd is rugged like this when it is dried.

the gourd on bawu …
the gourd on bawu does not bring much effectiveness. i guess it is just for decorative purpose.
